South Cambie
South Cambie is small community covering the area of 49th avenue on its north side to 59th avenue on its south side bordering Marpole. Its western border is Oak Street and it goes east to Main Street.
South Cambie is a small community at the South end of the Vancouver Westside. The main roadways going through South Cambie are Oak, Cambie, and Main streets, and the Oak Street Bridge is easily accessible to go to the Vancouver airport and Richmond. With all these major routes immediately accessible, it is easy to head in any direction from the South Cambie area.
Some of the main facilities and business in the area are:
Parks: There is Tisdall Park, Oak Park, and Winona Park all very close by.
High Schools: Sir Winston Churchill High School.
Elementary Schools: Sexsmith and Sir Wilfrid Laurier Elementary schools.
Community Centres and activities: Langara Golf Course and Langara College are located right beside each other, right in the centre of South Cambie on 49th avenue. There is also a YMCA just beside the Langara College and golf course on 49th near Cambie. The Marpole-Oakridge community centre is another community centre located just south in Marpole.
Business Centres: North of South Cambie, located on 41st and Cambie is Oakridge Mall. South of South Cambie on South West Marine drive you can find Superstore, Auto dealerships, restaurants, and a number of other businesses.
Recycling / Garbage: There is a community dump and recycling centre just South of the intersection of Cambie and Marine drive.

Much like its neighbouring communities, South Cambie holds many attractions that create a warm and inviting area to live. Because of it’s close location to Oakridge and Marpole, these three communities share together in their character, beauty, land and attractions.
This area is home to the Langara golf course, which was one of the first golf courses, built in Vancouver in 1926. And right beside the golf course you can find the very popular Langara College, which is now home to more than 23,000 students. Nearby you can also take a shopping trip into Oakridge Centre to fill your bags and satisfy your shopping needs. South Cambie has much to offer, such as the close location to downtown, which you can access quite quickly and easily from the bridges. The dense population gives this neighbourhood a safe-community feel, with several hospitals and medical research facilities in the area.
History
In the past, South Cambie grew along beside its neighbouring communities Oakridge and Marpole.
Development was slow in the beginning, but because of the industrial forces migrating to the area, construction was starting to build this small community into a unique and characteristic place to live.With the new Oak Street Bridge built, many people were settling down in this quaint neighbourhood, and because of the growing population schools and hospitals were now being built to satisfy the residents.Today most of the residents are young, active professionals and families.As you travel through the area you will find many different types of housing, such as detached houses that were built before 1970.There are also many heritage homes from before the 60s that are still standing and add much character.Divided houses with rental units and walk-up apartments and condominiums are also available.
